Micron to exhibit sprayers for black-grass control

Micron Group, manufacturer of precision spraying equipment, will be at Cereals (stand number 2-B-210) to exhibit its specialist range of agricultural sprayers and tank systems. Visitors to the stand will be able to find out how Micron sprayers can help farmers keep black-grass at bay with their Varidome band sprayer for row-grown crops and shielded Spraydome equipment for field margin demarcation.

With black-grass reaching a new phase of herbicide resistance and fewer active ingredients available to address the problem, the Varidome range of band sprayers can offer the perfect weed control solution in row crops such as oil seed rape and sugar beet. Thanks to its shielded design, the sprayer offers virtually zero drift and impressive target accuracy which means users can apply non-selective herbicides to treat the inter-row. Each shield is mounted on an individual parallelogram linkage with a ground-following wheel. This ensures that the hoods stay in close contact to the ground whilst spraying, further minimising the risk of spray drift.

With the Varidome S5 – the 9 metre machine – being showcased at Cereals, the sprayer is also available in three and six metre maximum working widths to suit different set ups. The Varidome S5 on display will be fitted with an optional Dual Spray System which comes with a second spray line and a twin tank. The system allows operators to simultaneously treat the crop with a selective herbicide, liquid feed, fungicide or insecticide over the row whilst applying a non-selective herbicide under the shield in between the rows. The Dual Tank offers a combined 1800 litre capacity with each tank being fitted with separate intake, induction, pumping, mixing and filtration systems.

Micron will also be displaying its circular Spraydome sprayer for field margin spraying. The practice of delineating crop margins separates the eco-rich field borders and the cultivated area thus eliminating the opportunity for persistent weeds such as black-grass establishing themselves in the crop. The Spraydome design incorporates a durable polymer shield to eliminate drift and provide accurate weed targeting. This also makes it ideal for use with non-selective herbicides to deliver a weed free strip which acts as a barrier between the field margin and the crop. Available in (Controlled Droplet Application) and conventional pressure nozzle variants, the Spraydome can be tractor, UTV and ATV-mounted and is suitable for other general weed control tasks such as pathway and fence line spraying.

In addition, visitors will be able to see the Undavina and Spraymiser shielded sprayers and the Weedswiper, a non-drip weed wiper for controlling weeds in pasture and sugar beet.

To complement its sprayer range, Micron will also be showcasing its 100 litre Tank System for tractors and sixty litre Tank System for ATVs. Both tanking solutions incorporate self-contained pumps, agitation and filter systems and flushing tanks.

Micron Varidome goes round the world

Following the introduction of the Varidome S3 – the three section band sprayer – at Lamma 2012 just over a year ago, Micron Group have seen growing interest in its precision inter-row technology. The sprayer received excellent feedback at both Lamma and Cereals from UK and overseas visitors alike. Encouraged by the successful UK launch, Micron presented the Varidome to the French market at Innov-Agri, the country’s main agricultural event in September 2012 and are planning further exposure at Tulare (USA) in February 2013, Yorke Peninsula Field Days (Australia) in September 2013 and further introductions in mainland Europe and Scandinavia. Driven by customer demand, Varidome’s manufacturer Micron has also developed the Varidome S5 – its largest to-date, nine metre band sprayer – which was exhibited at the 2013 Lamma event.

The reasons for the broad appeal of the Varidome are many. Firstly, the industry has seen an increasing withdrawal of active ingredients for crop protection which means farmers are faced with a limited choice of herbicides. Thanks to Varidome’s highly flexible design, the sprayer can be configured to suit most row-grown crops including sugar beet, oil seed rape and vegetables, making it a viable and attractive choice for a wide range of applications.

Secondly, the Varidome features a shielded spray system which allows users to better target weeds growing in the inter-row and a wider choice of herbicides for the job. The benefits of this are twofold: not only can Varidome effectively remove persistent weeds such as blackgrass under the shield, it can do so in a cost-effective way as non-selective herbicides such as Glyphosate can be applied. Used in conjunction with precision guidance systems, Varidome inter-row sprayers can deliver impressive 2 to 3 cms accuracy.

Varidome’s optional Dual Spray System offers further cost-savings and increased productivity. As well as treating the weeds growing inter-row under the shield, the sprayer can be fitted with a second spray line which can deliver selective herbicides, foliar feeds, fungicides or insecticides directly over the row. As a result, the product is only applied where it is needed, making Varidome a better choice all round.

Micron Group has rebranded

As part of its strategy to enhance the product offering and strengthen its brand perception, Micron Group has recently undergone a complete rebrand. The rebrand involved a change in trading name, standardising on product colourways and revising the individual product names.

As of January 2013 Micron’s three companies – Micron Sprayers Ltd, Micronair and Enviromist Industries Pty – will be trading as Micron Group. The decision was made following the Group’s recent restructuring which enabled the companies to capitalise on their combined strengths and consequently strengthen its key Sales, Marketing, R&D and Finance functions. During the restructuring, eight new positions have been created to enable the company to better serve the market. The common name will help Micron Group to enhance its image as a strong player in the spraying industry and reinforce its global positioning.

In the effort to further consolidate the brand image, the Group’s product colourways and labelling are being standardised. Micron will use one colour (green) for its vehicle-mounted equipment and hand-held sprayer parts. All atomiser shields including CDA and high flow nozzle models will also be produced in one standard yellow. Micronair atomiser moulded parts will remain red to differentiate between the aerial and ground equipment.

Additionally, the product family branding is being simplified to make the product offering clearer to the customer. It has been decided that the aerial atomisers and accessories will bear the Micronair family name whereas the remaining product portfolio including hand-held sprayers and applicators, Enviromist vehicle-mounted equipment and former Micronair ground products will be marketed under the Micron brand.

Individual product names have also been revised to reduce the number of brand names for similar type products which will consequently allow Micron Group to better protect its intellectual property.

As a result, Micron’s shielded hand-held sprayers will be branded Herbidome, with Herbi 600S being renamed as Herbidome 600 and Handydome renamed as Herbidome 350.
Equally the Microfit system branding has been simplified to help customers better understand the products. As such it has been decided to use the Microfit name for the handle component of the sprayers which would be used with interchangeable Herbi, Herbiflex or Herbi Twin lances. Equally, Microfit Powerpack Pro name has been changed to Microfit Pro to refer to the handle with electric on/off switch only.

The Turbair name will no longer be used as the parent brand for the Electrafan air-assisted sprayers. Instead, the product will be branded Micron Electrafan.

To help promote Micron’s core CDA (Controlled Droplet Application) technology for vehicle-mounted sprayers, the abbreviation will now form part of the product range name (e.g. UndavinaCDA).

Commenting on the rebrand, Ausra Landey, Group Marketing Manager at Micron said: “Since Micron’s inception in 1954, the company has grown from a small local company to one of the world’s leading manufacturers servicing a wide range of industries and their varying requirements. We believe that by implementing these branding changes and simplifying our branding structure, we will be able to further strengthen our global brand and make our products clearer to the end user.”

Micron to launch the new Varidome S5 sprayer at LAMMA 2013

Micron Group will use its stand 156 (Hall 1A) at Lamma 2013 as a launch pad for its largest to date Varidome S5 band sprayer. Building on the success of Varidome S1 and S3 models, Varidome S5 is a 9 metre wide inter-row sprayer for eradicating weeds growing in between rows of crops and in wheelings.

Aimed at the broad acre farmer, Varidome S5 is a particularly useful tool for controlling persistent weeds such as blackgrass in OSR, sugar beet, maize, vegetables and many other row-grown crops. The product is applied to the inter-row through hydraulic pressure nozzles which are housed under oval domes for drift free spraying. This results in a highly targeted and accurate application and significant savings in chemical compared to blanket spraying.

Capable of spraying of up to 9 metres a pass, Varidome S5 offers high productivity and is capable of treating up to 150 acres (60 hectares) a day. The machine can be fitted with up 24 shielded heads to suit the crop row spacing. Spray width is easily adjustable on each individual head (ranging from 170mm to 700mm) enabling operators to treat desired inter-row and wheeling widths.

Additionally, Varidome S5 can be supplied with two spray lines for inter-row weed control and over the row application to crop with the different tank mixes being fed from Micron’s Dual Tank System. This means users can treat the inter-row with a non-selective herbicide under the shield and simultaneously apply a selective spray, fungicide or insecticide over-row, thus halving operator time in the field.

When not in use, Varidome S5’s centre section folds up to allow the two side sections to fold in underneath for compact transportation and storage.

As well as the new Varidome, Micron will be displaying its shielded CDA sprayers – specifically, Undavina, Spraydome, Spraymiser models – and the new Micron 100 litre Tank System for treating field margins and general weed control. Micron’s shielded CDA range offers minimised spray drift, excellent spray accuracy and increased productivity.

Furthermore, visitors to the Micron Group stand will also be able to see its WeedSwiper, a non-drip weed wiper for the control of weeds in horticultural crops, pasture, amenity and conservation areas. WeedSwiper delivers herbicide onto the weeds via direct contact with its herbicide-moistened pads and is ideal in situations where conventional spraying is not desirable.

WeedSwiper delivers non-drip contact with weed foliage via herbicide-moistened pads. Made from a high quality absorbent material, the pads provide a large contact surface which enables to control weeds selectively on contact. Sensor controls ensure that the pads are continually moistened for maximum effective transfer of herbicide but never oversaturated to cause dripping. WeedSwiper is available in 2m, 3m and 6m folding units and can be tractor-mounted or trailed behind an ATV.

Speaking of the company’s plans for the LAMMA show, Ausra Landey, Group Marketing Manager at Micron said: “We are really excited about introducing our new three section band sprayer to the industry and LAMMA, as the UK’s leading agricultural event, provides the perfect platform for this. Varidome S3 is the result of extensive research, Research and Development consultation with customers and understanding their changing needs. As well as launching our latest innovation, LAMMA provides us with a great opportunity to meet customers old and new, discuss the challenges they face and how we at Micron could help to resolve these with our forward thinking and innovative technology.”

Micron Group to showcase its agricultural sprayers at Cereals

Demonstrating its commitment to agriculture, pioneers and manufacturers of CDA (Controlled Droplet Application) spraying equipment, Micron Group revealed plans to exhibit at Cereals 2012. At this high profile industry event, the company will use its stand B206 to showcase the Enviromist, WeedSwiper and Varidome products aimed at the agricultural sector.

Visitors to the stand will be able to see the recently launched Varidome S3, a shielded inter-row sprayer for weed control in OSR and vegetables. Since its introduction at Lamma 2012, the unit has generated a lot of interest and positive feedback from the industry owing to its impressive advantages.

Capable of treating three beds at a time, Varidome S3 can spray variable inter-row widths from 170mm to 700mm and bed widths from 1.3m to 2m wide (up to a total width of 6 metres). The spray width is fully adjustable on each individual head; the toolbar configuration can also be easily changed to suit the type of crop.

In addition to its standard configuration, the unit being exhibited at Cereals will feature a dual spray system to enable simultaneous application of two different products, thus greatly increasing productivity. For example, users could treat the inter-row with a contact weed spray contained under the shield whilst applying a selective spray over-row at the same time.

Micron staff will also be promoting the Spraydome, Undavina and Spraymiser equipment for tackling weeds in a variety of agricultural situations. Part of the Enviro range, the sprayers combine a shielded design and Micron’s proven CDA technology to offer users improved spraying efficiency, reduced water requirement and minimised risk of spray drift.

Available in a range of diameters, the Spraydome features flexible plastic domes to virtually eliminate spray drift, making it particularly suited for field margin spraying and the demarcation of public footpaths across cultivated areas. The unit incorporates Enviro’s “breakaway” system which gently deflects and rolls around any trees encountered in the way, safeguarding them from mechanical abrasion and herbicide damage.

The “breakaway” system is also incorporated in the Undavina design – an Enviro range sprayer with a soft vinyl spray hood shielding the CDA atomiser. This combination makes Undavina ideal for spraying along the fence lines, ensuring excellent reach right up to and around the fence posts.

Next in the Enviro range is the Spraymiser which is particularly suited for pathway spraying due its oblong shape. The sprayer provides outstanding weed control at low volumes using its vertically mounted CDA spray heads that allow for a low profile shield to fit around them to virtually eliminate spray drift.

The Spraymiser can be used in conjunction with the circular Undavina or Spraydome units to achieve wider spray widths where required and to simultaneously treat pathways and fence lines. All Enviro units feature a flow control system with a light indicator to monitor the correct functioning of the spray head. The Enviro sprayers can be ATV or tractor mounted to suit users’ requirements.

As well as the Enviro and Varidome sprayers, agricultural growers will be able to find out more about Micron’s WeedSwiper. Available in 2m, 3m and 6m folding units, the WeedSwiper is a non-drip weed wiper which provides a safe and cost-effective solution for the control of tall weeds in pasture, sugar beet and amenity grass. The WeedSwiper delivers non-drip brush contact with weed foliage via herbicide-moistened pads. Produced from a high quality material with premium fluid retention properties, the 6 inch deep pads provide a three-dimensional reservoir of active ingredient and offer a large herbicide transfer area. Sensor controls ensure that the pads are continually moistened for maximum effective transfer of herbicide but never oversaturated to cause dripping, irrespective of travel speed or weed density.

Besides its vehicle-mounted range, Micron Group will be displaying a broad range of hand-held sprayers and weed wipers some of which will be available for purchase off the stand at a discount. The products on display will include the Herbi range of battery-operated CDA sprayers for a wide range of agricultural and general weed control applications and the Micron AU8000 mistblower for low and ultra low volume spraying in orchards and greenhouses.

Commenting of Micron’s attendance at Cereals, Ausra Landey, Group Marketing Manager said: “Coming up with effective and innovative solutions has always been one of the driving factors of our business. Our broad product portfolio is as diverse as our customers’ varying needs to enable us to cater for most agricultural weed control operations, large and small. We are pleased to be able to showcase our comprehensive agricultural range at this important event and look forward to welcoming visitors onto our stand to discuss their individual requirements.”
